United Container Depots (UCD) facility.

Salt River, Cape Town, in South Africa’s Western Cape province.

Project Description
The UCD facility will provide a significant boost for agricultural exports from the Western Cape.

Phase 1 operations started in the third quarter of 2025. The 40 000 m2 site offers 240 refrigerated container power outlets. The depot offers capacity for 5 000 twenty-foot equivalent units. It is also equipped with 240 reefer plugs, on-site reefer preparation and staging areas, ensuring the integrity of South Africa’s key exports such as citrus and grapes.

The Phase 2 expansion will add 23 000 m2 to the existing site, and will include a rail link and bulk mineral site.

Phase 1 cost R60-million to implement. Phase 2 will take capital expenditure to an estimated R200-million.
